SFTW - Fairies and Fantasy

Can you believe it Friday again? Not only is it Friday but another month is almost over.  Before you know it this challenge will be over and I haven't even told you what it is.  So I better get to it.  It's the latest Stampin' for the Weekend challenge.  We've got "Fairies and Fantasy" for our theme and you've got two weeks to get a card put together.
The other day on of the design team wanted to know if a mermaid was an acceptable image.  This sort of cracked me up because recently there were a few shows on television that "proving" mermaids were real.  I tried to watch them but I kept falling asleep on them and what I saw of them didn't win me over so if you want to use a mermaid I won't removed your card from the gallery.

Are you looking closely at my card thinking something looks funny.  Not ha ha funny but peculiar funny.  When I was taking the photograph something looked odd to me and I couldn't figure out what it was but I finally figured it out.  Have you got it.  It depends on how good your eyesight is, or how detail oriented you are.  If you look closely at the background paper the white lines in it are handwriting and it's upside down.  I wasn't paying attention to that when I attached it to the card base, oh well...aren't those leaf wings the cutest thing...

here's the deets:
stamp - Mo Manning Fall Fairy Jensen digi
ink -printer
paper - Stampin' Up So Saffron card stock; My Favorite Things Orange Fizz; Scenic Route Paper Co Harvest Small Harlequin patterned paper
miscellaneous - copics; My Favorite Things Oval Stax die-namics; Spellbinders Opulent Ovals dies; bling; orange ribbon

TCP September Paper Piecing

The Cat's Pajama's September challenge is paper piecing.  I do so love to paper piece, especially love to paper piece TCP images.  My favorite images to piece are the bun buns.  It's the ears.  There's something about those ears.  I don't think there's a TCP fan out there who isn't taken by those ears the EsOD (ears of death) as they are affectionately known.  Since I often piece Bun Bun i decided it was time to do something different for the challenge, but what?  I pulled out all my TCP stamps and browsed through them.  That's actually a fun activity for me, and I do that every so often just for yucks and jollies, yeah, I know I'm a little weird but that's not news to me or to most people who know me.  As I browse I sort the sets into piles, they're in an ever changing order but every sort has a pile of the ones I'm thinking I might use for my next card.  During this sort I ended up with 5 stamps that I would have liked to use.  So I sat and looked at them for awhile longer and attempted to make a decision.  Well, decisions are a funny thing for me.  Some days when I have to make them, I can do it with pause then there's day that making a decision is just not going to happen.  This was one of them, and on this kind of day I resort to eenie, meanie, minie, moe...and my mother told me that the penguins on the pumpkin were the very best one.  So that's how I decided to make this card.
It's obvious that the pumpkins have been pieced but what you probably can't tell is that even the penguins have been pieced.   Even though they're just black and white they've been cut out and pasted over (and in some spots under) the original stamped image.  Yes,sometimes for reasons beyond my understanding I can  get a bit nuts about this stuff but you probably already knew that.

Here's the deets:
stamp - The Cat's Pajamas Hello Pumpkin
ink - Memento Tuxedo Black
paper - Authentique Enchanted pad; Close To My Heart Mischief pack
miscellaneous - copics; MFT Oval stax die-namics; The Cat's Pajamas Hearts Swirl and banner from Easy Rosette Cut Ups; Jolee's Boutique spider web sticker; orange and black bling; machine stitching

PWC277 - No Designer Paper

It's Wednesday, that means it's time to get pretty.  OK, you are pretty all the time and you don't have to do anything to be be pretty.  What I meant was it's time for a the  Paper Pretties challenge PWC277!  Yippee!  This week might be a little hard for some of you.  If you're like me and you have lots of pretty packages of paper this week you're going to have to leave them on the shelf because this week we're challenging you to make a card without using any patterned paper.  That's right - NO DESIGNER PAPER!  So for you frugal gals, and you clean and simple gals this is right up your alley.  It's your chance to shine.  Find one of your stamp sets that has some little designs that go along with the main design, or get your embossing folders out.  You'll figure something out.  Whatever you do, you want to play along because the winner gets their pick of 5 digital images.
For my card I chose to use the Frosty stamp set.  It comes four snowflakes which you can use to make your own background paper.  I chose to make a clean and simple card in two different color paths instead of making a separate background paper.  It's not that easy to discern but the card on the left is stamped in blue ink and the card on the right is done in silver embossing powder.  If you need to make a lot of cards in a hurry the one in the blue ink takes next to no time at all, and if you want to make it even faster make it a single layer.  If you like a more elegant look the silver embossing is the way to go.

Here's the deets:
ink - Memento Nautical Blue; Versamark
paper - Stampin' Up Midnight Muse and Whisper White
miscellaneous - Silver embossing powder; corner punch

Here's the challenges:

CIC229 - Fresh Brewed Designs

They're back.  Fresh Brewed Designs are back as our sponsor.   This week it's all about the forest.  Check out those cute cupcakes.   We've got forest friends for our inspiration on the cupcakes at Cupcake Inspirations Challenge CIC229, adorable aren't they?  And Fresh Brewed Designs came up with some really cute critter  digital images for the sweeties to use, and of course they're available for purchase at the Fresh Brewed Designs Store.   Take some time to stop over at our challenge blog to see what the sweeties have made before you get to work on your card.

My card uses the forest theme and colors.  I used the beaver digi.  Don't you just love those big eyes?  I fussy cut it out and popped it up on a piece of forest paper which was was die cut into a circle shape.
The rest of the papers are also forest themed from the October Afternoon Campfire pad.  There's a small bow with a charm embellishment on it but I don't think that's too girly.   Right now I don't have anyone in particular to send this to but if I need it for a boy I think it will do.

Now it's your turn.  Come on and play along with us at Cupcake Inspirations Challenge.

Here's the deets:

PIO #38 Warm or Cool Colors

It's time for the a new Pile It On challenge.  This week we're challenging you to use either warm or cool colors.  Warm colors are reds and yellows.  Cool colors are blues and purples.  Click here to see a some images of color wheels showing the division of warm and cool colors.

The week our sponsor is the The Paper Nest.   They are offering a $25.00 gift certificate to the winner. What a great prize!

Just this afternoon, while we were out riding our bikes my husband pointed out the first fall decoration he'd seen and then we saw our first Halloween decorations.  It's time to get the witches and pumpkin stamps out.  Pull out your purple and green papers and have some fun.  I really enjoy making fall and Halloween cards.  I love the rich colors and I absolutely love all the horror, gross and gory stuff for Halloween.  I'm not too fond of the slasher movies or fright shows at the theme parks but I do like decorations and since there isn't much of a seasonal color change on the Gulf Coast the decorations and card making are all I get.

You don't have to make a Halloween card, or a fall card, just make something with either a warn color palette or a cool color palette.  Don't forget to link it up to the Pile It On challenge blog and at least on other challenge (but we hope you'll try to find more).

When you're making a stack of Christmas cards you want something that's quick and easy.  Using a sentiment as the focal point is a good choice.  Most sentiments can be punched out or die cut and be ready for use on your card.   If you feel like it you can dress it up a bit by adding some color like this one.

CIC228 Robyn's Fetish

As usual the Cupcake Inspirations Challenge has a photo that is making me drool as I write my post.  Fortunately for me and you the photos do not contain any calories and are here strictly for your inspiration.

This week we have Robyn's Fetish Digital Stamps and More for our sponsor.  We've been lucky to have them a few times.  I particularly like the primitive style images they have but there are so many images in so many styles to choose from that a trip to the shop is a must for you.  Go on over now I'll wait for you to come back...

For my card I chose to work with the "Apple Cider" digi.  It's got that fall feeling.  Since I live in sunny Florida where the temperatures are still in the 90's and the palm trees don't change colors I needed to do a little seasoning of my own.  I was able to use the colors of the inspiration photo and pick up the chevrons from the cupcake papers.

Need some more inspiration?  Stop over at the Cupcake Inspirations Challenge blog and see what the rest of the sweeties created, I know they always knock me out with their work.  Then get busy making your card, we love to see what you do.  Don't forget to link it up.

Here's the deets:

PWC275 - Distressing

This week at Paper Pretties we're distressed, that is we're distressing our cards for this week's challenge PWC275.   So this week you can take out your frustrations on your card when you play along with us.

There are fancy kits available for distressing but you don't need to have anything special to distress a card. If you don't have one of the razor edge distressing tools you can just rip it up in your hands or you can use the edges of the blades of your scissors to scratch up the paper edges.  I also used an emery board from my manicure supplies to rub off some of the surface of the patterned paper.  A dark ink sponged around the paper and that does it, at least for the distressing part.

For the rest of the card, it's easy peasy.  The tree (from the O Christmas Tree stamp set) was stamped with Versa Mark and heat embossed with Cherry Cobbler embossing powder.  Then the star was stamped  and gold embossing powder was used and lastly the sentiment was stamped, again gold embossing powder was used.  The sentiment doesn't show up well in this photo, it's just "Merry Christmas" but it's a very pretty font, under the twine.

Here's the deets:
stamp - Paper Pretties "O Christmas Tree"
ink- Versa Mark; Ranger Walnut Stain
paper - Stampin' Up "Cherry Cobbler", "Soft Suede"  and "Neutrals DSP Patterns Stack"
miscellaneous - Cherry Cobbler Embossing Powder; Gold Embossing powder; baker's twine; button; Close To My Heart Mocha Opaques

Pile It On #36 Tic Tac Toe

This week's Pile It On challenge is Tic Tac Toe.  It's a very fun and easy board and you don't have to worry about some one else getting their x's in the way of your o's.  Just pick your line and make your card.  Any three items in a row will do it, in whatever direction you choose.

For my card I choose the top row - Patterned Paper, Metal and For a Child.  My card also qualifies for the middle row going up and down.  The green library clip holding the sentiment is metal.

Our sponsor this week is Simply Betty.   If you can relate to this phrase "there's a little "quirk" in all of us" then you will probably enjoy a shopping spree at Simply Betty.

My card uses "We Come In Peace".  Can you tell I've colored her skin in greys instead of fleshtones? Or that the whites of her eyes are green and her hair is stickles red?  Her offspring have stickles green eyes, there are shiney stars in the corners and light and dark blue bling are scattered around the background of the image panel.  This card is really much better looking in real life.  I wish you all could see it.  It's so nice I don't want to give it away but I know it'll make a little boy very happy.

Now it's your turn.  Pick your row. Make a card.  Find at least one other challenge to enter your card into and link it up.  We look forward to seeing it.

Here's the deets:
stamp - Simply Betty "We Come In Peace"

Jellypark Friends - All About the Kids

Are you ready for a fun challenge?  Well if you are then it's a good thing it's time for Jellypark Friend's new challenge "All About the Kids".

My card card uses one of the new releases "Girl Running with Cake".   I just can't resist cake.  Fortunately for me when the cake is on a stamp I don't have to worry about how many calories I'm consuming and I love just the same, maybe even a little more.  I can make it whatever flavor I'd like it to be and it's so much fun to color and adding on stickles.

I doubt that anyone would need it but I made a "How To" list for throwing a birthday party.  If you need directions feel free to copy them.

PWC274 Paper Piercing

It's Wednesday, hump day, or as I prefer new challenge day at Paper Pretties.  If you're like me and prefer the challenge then you need to know that PWC274 is "Paper Piercing". That is p-i-e-r-c-i-n-g which means poking holes that form a design or outline.  If you're like me you have trouble discerning piercing from piecing.  If you look closely you'll notice that my sweet hippo is wearing a paper pieced dress.  Oh, well, no will take off points for paper piecing but you do need to get some piercing on there too.

My card uses the totally adorable "Fairy Special" stamp set which has three oh so very cute animal fairies and four birthday sentiments to adorn your cards or projects.

Here's the deets:
stamp - Paper Pretties "Fairy Special"
ink - Memento "Tuxedo Black"; pink marker used to ink sentiment
paper - Bazzill "Buttercream", "Blossom" and "Glow" card stock; Simple Stories Vintage Bliss
miscellaneous - copics; Spellbinder's "circles" and "Lacey Circles" dies; Stampin' Up "Modern Label"  and border punch; stickles

CIC226 - Digi Darla

It's time for another fun and girly challenge from Cupcake Inspirations Challenges.  We've got Digi Darla Designs back as our sponsor this week.  You can see some of the fun and cute images being used by the design team this week if you go to our challenge blog. You can stop at Digi Darla's and see all of what they've got to offer and of course you can stop at both.

This week you we're giving a choice of photo or color inspiration challenge.  Which ever you'd like to play.

I love the Digi Darla image I'm using.  It's Purse 2,

The schools I attended required that uniforms be worn.  But they didn't say anything about purses!  I have purchased or been given purses of all shapes and sizes, used and new, in flea markets and on e-bay.  I do love a purse.  So for my card, it's hard to see but the purse is the card.  I printed the card as large as my printer allowed.  There are two of them cut out.  The top portion, above the purse, the handle and the area in the middle of the handles are glued together and then the card opens under there.

In this large size this would also make a cute box to hold a few cards or tags made with this image.  It could also be made into a little book.  I see so many possibilities for this image.

Here's the deets:
stamp - Digi Darla Design "Purse 2"
ink - printer
paper - Georgia Pacific card stock
miscellaneous - copics; Ranger Glossy Accents; pearls; stickles

Here's the challenges:
Cupcake Inspirations CIC226 - photo or colors: fuschia, rose and pool
